Welcome to Garden Tutorial
This is my page. I plan to add garden stuff up here. It won't be professional, but hopefully you will find it useful. I took up gardening as a hobby in 2005. My father suggested that I get a hobby or I was going to burn myself out. Well, I took his advice and since then I have built my own greenhouse on the patio of my apartment. In fact it was quite funny since I live on the second floor. When I watered my plants the overspill of the water would fall down below. Oh well, no one complained and I continued on. Here are some pictures of my greenhouse in my apartment.
I went Crazy
Like I said before I went crazy on my hobby. I planted everything I could get my hands on. Apples, Lemons, Tomatoes, Peanutes, Potatoes, Roses, a lot of different types of trees - most out of my zone, Pineapple and Bananas. I had pumpkins and cucumbers and I even tried growing some Apricots and Plums but my seeds didn't take.
I started on cuttings after that. More on that later. I bought a tree at Home Depot that was Yes, you guessed it taller than the roof of my apartment patio. But I didn't care. I watered everything feircely almost too much. In fact the tomato plants I bought I burried probably 12-18 inches of the plant in the buckets I bought. See they were small when I bought them but with all the watering I had to get new buckets. So when I did I had been told make sure you plant lots of root on the tomato so it gets plenty of the nutrients it needs. Well I did that in spades I think. With 18 inches of root and my die hard watering habits I soon had 5 foot tall tomato plants. In fact they got so tall close to 7 foot that they actually where leaning against the plastic wall of my greenhouse. They didn't have the strength to stand on their own so I cut them and made more tomato plants which I gave back to my dad. At the time I cut them I had to hold the tomato plant upright but it was at least two feet over my head and I'm 6 foot tall. Now that's a tomato plant.
But alas even with big tomato plants I had no tomatoes. In fact I didn't bear any fruit on any fruit bearing plants. I couldn't for the life of my figure out why. Then it hit me. Bees! Well Bees didn't hit me, but the fact that I didn't have any Bees to polinate all my plants. I had that greenhouse so locked up and sealed that you could easily go from the outside of my patio to the inside and see a noticeable difference. I always loved the smell of a warm humid greenhouse. In fact I was going to go out in my greenhouse and do some reading but my magazine went from stiff to floppy because of all the humidity. And it was too hot to relax and smoke a nice cigar even with the fan blowing next to me. So I just admired my work from my big sliding glass apartment window.
Products?
I think it would be cool to have some software that would keep track of gardening stuff. What gardening stuff? I don't know, but something that would be easy to use and be helpful to gardners. Maybe something to help them organize everything, cause I have stuff everywhere. Or perhaps it would keep track of which plants I have growing and let me enter information about that plant to keep a record of its growing cycles.
I don't know what I will write. But if you have any gardening software ideas send them to me. Remember I will try to make it easy to use and helpful to gardners.
Thanks,
Joe
